Srinagar: Scores of residents of Hussaini Colony Chattergam of Budgam staged a protest here in press enclave Srinagar on Friday against the setting up of stone crusher in the area.
The residents said that there are already brick-kilns and factories around their village that have caused pollution in the area.
“If stone crusher is installed on the proposed site, it will add more pollution and will leave an adverse effect on the residents there,” they said.
Fayaz Ahmad Rather, a local resident told Kashmir Reader that “We had already informed DC Budgam about the pollution that comes from the brick-kilns and factories around our village, now surprisingly he has given permission for stone crusher in the same area which is very unfortunate. Despite giving several assurances that no stone crasher will be permitted in the area as it is very close to residential houses and agricultural land, one fails to understand on what basis this stone crusher has been given permission”.
“Stone crusher is being installed on the proposed site, just 8 kilometres from Srinagar, close to the village which inhabits around 200 houses and most of them are dependent on agricultural practices and other related activities”, he added.
Another resident said that left no stone unturned and went from pillar to post for a long time to stop the installation of this unit but still it has been given permission.
“It will create air pollution, noise pollution and pollute water bodies of the area as the location selected for the Crusher is very near to residential houses, school, agricultural land and road connectivity”, he added.
