BUDGAM: Director School Education Kashmir, G N Itoo, on Wednesday said that long pending issue of salaries of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers will be resolved within few days, as the issue has been “vigorously pursued at the highest level”.
Itoo was talking to media on sidelines of a farewell party organised by Zonal Education Office Narbal on superannuation of an officer at Town hall Magam.
The director admitted that due to non-availability of funds the salaries of teachers appointed under SSA were pending.
“The administrative department have asked us to file a report of reasons behind the short fall of salaries of SSA teachers and we have submitted that report and as per my current knowledge, all details have been worked out and we hope that the salaries will be released soon,” he said.
He said that the funds were not available with the government but now the government has taken up the issue with Government of India and they have assured that the funds will be released soon.
He added that the payment of the salaries to the SSA teachers will be streamlined within next few days.
Meanwhile, officials in the education department complained that SSA teachers in some districts didn’t get their salaries for past five months saying that the funds from both, MHRD and state government were not released due to some departmental issues.
“We had some liabilities pending with the department due to delayed funding, however, the matter will be resolved as soon as possible,” they said.
The SSA teachers have been facing salary issues many times, but this time there has been a four-month delay in disbursing salaries, an SSA teacher said.
“Delaying salaries has now became a routine in Kashmir,” he complained.
Itoo also said that he has recommended the government to pay the wages to contingent paid workers CPWs.
“Their wages will be released in a phased manner,” he said.
