SRINAGAR: Expressed deep grief over the death of an under-detention militant Mushtaq Ahmad Chopan, Chairman Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Geelani on Tuesday termed the police version as “unacceptable”.
“It is one more concocted story,” Geelani said in a statement. “The photographs and circumstance suggest that it is a deliberate murder and the story cooked by police is unbelievable.”
“How it is possible that the slain youth had made a plan to escape from police custody and a veil was provided by somebody to facilitate his escape. Blaming militants for grenade attack is nothing new as these stories are now outdated,” Geelani said. “There are no evidences that he had a burqa (veil) with him as the pictures suggest that he was wearing a traditional Kashmiri Pheran,” he said.
Terming the death as custodial killing, Hurriyat chairman demanded impartial investigation by International War Tribunal.
Meanwhile, on the directions of Geelani, a deputation led by Mohammad Rafiq Owasi, Mudasir Ahmad Bhat and Talib Hussain visited the bereaved family and expressed sympathy and condolence with the members, the statement said.
