Students in distress, say missing deadlines for further courses
Srinagar: The University of Kashmir has not announced the results for final semester BA LLB examinations conducted in October 2017 leaving the students in distress.
The students said their course, supposed to conclude in February 2017 was already stretched by a host of reasons, and the delay in final results has aggravated the problem.
“We are not able to go for further studies like AMU LLM entrance examination as in this exam candidates should be less than 22 years and now we are in 23rd year,” a group of students said.
They said the first four semester exams of their course were held on time, but after that semesters got delayed. “Authorities blamed 2014 flood and 2016 uprising. We appeared in the 10th semester exams in October 2017 but officials at KU are unable to declare result due to which our degree further delayed,” they said.
Even as the five-year course is yet to conclude after six years, the students said they have approached the university several times seeking the announcement of their results, so that they could apply for jobs or further studies.
“They play with our careers. They are the laziest lot whenever we argue with them they get agitated and start creating more problems for us,” another student said.
“We are unable to understand why only KU delays result. This not only happens with our department there are other departments too which are facing such problems. Students enrolled in Central University of Kashmir (CUK), Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST), Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), or other university for different course, have received they received their degrees on time,” he said.
A teacher at the law faculty, acknowledged that the delay was an injustice to students. Wishing anonymity, he expressed helplessness and said that anyone raising questions is singled out.
“We try to tell many times to declare the results as many students want to go for further studies but they says why are you worrying, ‘we will declare the result’. They (highly officials) have some issue due to which students suffer,” he said.
“We are worried about those students who have backlogs, we don’t know when they would complete their degree.”
Controller Examinations of KU Dr Mohammad Yousuf Bhat told Kashmir Reader that the department has not provided the marks award of the students
“We have not received marks sheet of the students once we get it we will declare the result,” Bhat said.
Head, Department of Law, Prof Mohammad Saif said there was some problem “in our software system” which caused delay in result.
“I will assure you within three days we will declare result of the 10th semester.” Prof Saif said.
