Zainpora (Shopian): Due to the non-availability of a dental surgeon, the dearth of technical staff including radiologist in community health centre (CHC), residents of Zainapora in Shopian are facing immense hardships.
CHC Zainpora, which caters to healthcare facilities of seventy villages in the area, lacks several facilities including USG, hotline to provide electricity and unavailability of a dental surgeon.
Local residents said that lack of these facilities forces them to visit the hospitals of other districts.
Muzaffar Ahmad, a resident of Zainpora told Kashmir Reader that ironically government spent lakhs of rupees to buy a new machine but without the sanction of a radiologist for the same, it is turning useless.
“Deploying a radiologist will not only provide relief to the locals but can also generate revenue to the government,” he said while demanding deployment of a radiologist in the hospital.
Riyaz Ahmad Mir, another resident said that there is no dental surgeon available in the hospital. “Despite the heavy rush of dental patients there is no dental surgeon in the hospital and the nearest dental facility in government health center is more than 20 kilometres away,” rues Riyaz.
Locals also said that technician for x-ray, ECG and lab are not available round the clock. It is adding vows of people in the area. Hospital authorities told Kashmir reader that they have a dearth of technical staff due to which they were not able to provide these services round the clock.
Locals added that hotline for the hospital was left halfway by the authorities due to unknown reasons.
Doctors added that the work on the central heating system has been stopped by contractors due to unknown reasons admitted the problem due to its absence.
Doctor Samiullah, an in-charge medical officer of the hospital said that these technical posts including radiologist were not sanctioned for the hospital. “We brought these issues in the notice of higher authorities and are hopeful for their positive response,” he said.
Local MLA Advocate Aijaz Ahmad Mir said that 12 doctors are available out of 14 sanctioned strength. “Dental surgeon will be deployed within 15 days in the hospital. I have released Rs 7 lakh from my constituency development fund for the completion of the hotline and work on that will be resumed soon,” he said.
He added that he will talk to the higher-ups for sanction of technical posts for the hospital. “We have best doctors available in Zainpora hospital, “Mir added.
Chief medical officer Shopian, Dr Abdul Rasheed could not be reached despite several attempts on the phone.
