Militant killed, bid to help arrested militant escape foiled in Tral: Police

Srinagar: A militant was killed in grenade explosion when he was challenged by sentry while trying to escape from Police Station Tral, police said on Monday.
“A terrorist Mushtaq Ahmad Chopan died in grenade explosion when challenged by sentry while trying to escape from Police Station Tral,” Police Chief Shesh Paul Ved said in a tweet.
The Hizbul Mujahideen militant was killed and a policeman sustained splinter injuries after a grenade blast in police station in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Police Inspector General of Police Kashmir Range Swayam Prakash Pani, told GNS that as per preliminary report received by him somebody threw a grenade in a bid to take out the militant under custody.
However, IGP said that the blast led to the death of the militant and injuries to a policeman.
“This is preliminary information which I have received and further details will be shared as they emerge,” the IGP said.
The slain militant has been identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Chopan, who was arrested along with two others by Amy’s MARCOS at Watlab on January 7.
