Srinagar: The Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar has started a fresh scrutiny of its Class-IV employees who were promoted to technical posts on the basis of degree and diploma certificates. An order issued by the college’s administrator has asked HODs of various departments, administrative officers, and officials of AMT College, Srinagar, to furnish the detailed list of such promoted employees.
The order has been issued days after Kashmir Reader reported the absence of a screening committee for promotions at GMC Srinagar. Hundreds of non-technical employees of the GMC and its associated hospitals were being promoted to technical posts without proper scrutiny of their certificates.
The college doesn’t also have an academic council or selection committee to check the certificates of in-service candidates. “Many Class-IV employees have obtained promotions against technical posts after producing dubious certificates,” said an official. “This is grave negligence as the promoted employees do not know the basics of the work. It has a direct bearing on patient care.”
There are nearly 1,120 paramedics currently working on various technical posts against 2,011 sanctioned posts, while 891 posts are still vacant.
