Handwara: Police in Handwara have arrested three men allegedly involved in stealing cattle from a village this week.
Police officials said that three cows and a calf were stolen from Wadipora village in the intervening night of Febraury 22 and 23.
The villagers held a protest blocking Wadipora Handwara road on Friday and demanded arrest of the thieves.
Police said that during investigation a suspect Nazir Ahmad Chopan was “interrogated” who led police to other suspects.
During raids the cattle were recovered from the possession of Habibullah Zargar resident of Kreeri in Baramulla.
Police claimed that Nazir Ahmad Chopan confessed that he along with Mohammad Ramzan Chopan resident of Wadipora and Habibullah Zargar had stolen the cattle during the night and took it to Kreeri Pattan In a load carrier.
Ramzan had even filed a “misleading” complaint with police about the theft of one ox from his house, police said.
