SRINAGAR: Contingent paid Workers (CPWS) of the education department from all the districts of Kashmir held a protest demonstration on Saturday and demanded an increase in their wages.
The protesters first assembled here in press enclave here, later on, they protested in the premises of Directorate of Education and raised slogans in favour of their demands.
Altaf Ahmad, one of the protesters said, “We are working in the education department for fifteen years. In 2008 the Government had come out with SRO 308. But at that time there were no vaccines in the department. If the Government cannot regularise us, at least they should increase our wages. ”
He added, “We are not only working in schools, we also performed election duties from time to time. We were performing duty during 2016 uprising also. Most of our colleagues have also been retired from the department. But they did get any kind of service benefit. The government should also think about our carrier.”
“Till now we were an impression that we all are going to regularise under SRO 520 regularisation policy, even finance minister Haseeb Drabu had assured us but I don’t know why were ignored in the SRO 520,” protesters said.
The protesters appealed education Minister to increase their wages.
