SRINAGAR: Authorities on Saturday disallowed the executive council meeting called by Syed Ali Geelani-led Hurriyat Conference at Hyderpora headquarters.
The amalgam in a statement said police during raid arrested several leaders including the chief spokesperson Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar, Mohammad Ashraf Laya, Bilal Sidiqee and detained many others in police stations.
“A posse of police personnel were posted outside Geelani’s residence at Hyderpora where the resistance leaders from various constituent parties were to hold a meeting. Forces did not allow anybody to enter the residence,” the spokesperson said.
“The meeting was convened by Geelani to discuss several important issues,” the statement said. “Police in large contingents was deployed and no one was allowed to enter Geelani’s residence.”
Meanwhile, Hurriyat while lashing out at authorities said they are “playing with fire”. “The despotic attitude is the root cause of uncertainty and horrendous situations in state,” it said.
Terming the curbs as “unjustified and unconstitutional”, Hurriyat said the “anti-Kashmiri” state resorted to its usual tactic of curbing the leadership and gagging voices.
He said the government once again showed that Kashmir is ruled by the forces’ might. “The restrictions are open demonstration of state terrorism,” Hurriyat said, adding, the ‘’Battle of Ideas’ and all other slogans and tall claims proved fraud and hoax.
