Baramulla: Three persons were buried alive under an avalanche in forests of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday.
Local sources said that a group of seven persons had gone to the nearby Lashkote forests located between Kupwara and Bandipora, where they came under an avalanche.
Three got buried alive while others, who had a miraculous escape with minor injuries, later on informed people about the incident following which scores among them rushed to the area to rescue those buried under snow.
Those buried under the debris have been identified as Altaf Ahmad Mir son of Bashir Ahmad Mir resident of Reshwari Warnow; Bashir Ahmad Ganai son of Ghulam Rasool Ganai resident of Dardpora Lolab; and Ghulam Mohammad Lone son of Ali Mohammad lone resident of Warnow.
Some locals said that three persons went missing after a mudslide occurred in the Lolab forests and that three other persons were rescued from there.
SSP Kupwara Shamshar Hussain, however, said it was an avalanche and not a mudslide.
