Srinagar: A spokesman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (G) on Friday lashed out at state police and authorities for barring Hurriyat chairman Syed Ali Geelani from offering congregational prayers.
He said, “Geelani and other resistance leaders are barred from performing religious obligations which is interference in religious matters and clear violation of UN charter wherein performing religious obligations have been recognized as fundamental right.”
“Geelani is a leader of international stature, scholar, a statesman and a writer par excellence,” said a spokesman, and added that there is no constitutional and moral justification to curb his peaceful political activities and stop him from performing religious obligations.
Lamenting at administration, spokesman said that his residence has been turned into a sub-jail and “continuous detention is taking heavy toll on his health.” He said that Hurriyat conference appealed to human rights organisations and international community for their cognizance and called to take notice of this lawlessness, human rights violations and continuous house arrest of Geelani.
