Ganderbal: Civil society Ganderbal Thursday called on Vice Chancellor Central University of Kashmir and Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal and presented a memorandum regarding the expediting the pace of work on Ganderbal Campus of varsity.
The delegation asked the Vice Chancellor CUK about the slow pace of construction at Ganderbal main campus, and reasons for not starting the class work there, spokesperson said.
“The VC was requested to immediately shift his office and all other faculties to Ganderbal and start functioning from Ganderbal instead of paying huge rents at different places in Srinagar away from the main campus of the university. He was also asked to take necessary steps for the expeditiously starting of construction work at the campus site Tullamulla-Kurhama Ganderbal,” statement said.
The Vice Chancellor agreed to the concerns of civil society Ganderbal and reiterated that Central University Ganderbal will be setup at originally proposed site, statement said.
“VC told us MHRD has passed direction for stopping of work due to cost escalation at the Tullamula site, yet approval for finishing the under process works is there. Many buildings have been constructed and are ready to shift in the later week of March to these buildings. The also told us that the administration has to get the further approval from the MHRD for further starting of construction work at Ganderbal,” statement said.
The VC further agreed to shift his office to Ganderbal provided he is provided office space there by the district administration, statement added.
The statement also said that Ganderbal residents are agitated over the reports of shifting CUK from Ganderbal to some alternative place.
Even after clarification by chief minister through a tweet message last week that CUK campus would be setup in Ganderbal but at some alternate place.
“We are not satisfied with her response; we want it to be setup at the initially designated place,” statement said.
