14,000 MDM cooks to be trained in phased manner: DSEK

SRINAGAR: The government is taking many steps for the development of basic infrastructure in the Department of Education, which also includes providing of standard MDM (Mid Day Meal) kitchen facilities in schools.
The department has started training for the MDM cooks in this regard and the government is making every possible effort to make this scheme more meaningful and make it more effective, an official handout read.
In this context, Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK) Dr G N Itoo on Thursday inaugurated a 10-day training programme for master trainers for MDM cooks from 10 districts of Kashmir division at Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Rajbagh.
DSEK said that after completing the training programme, this group shall impart training to cooks in their respective districts and thus all the 14,000 cooks working in all the districts of the division including Leh and Kargil will be trained.
He said, “During the training programme these cooks shall be made acquainted with all the aspects of the kitchen i.e., from cleanliness to different methods of cooking.”
During the training programme, the top performing cooks shall be awarded by the department, he said.
Principal of the institute, Qazi Shabir said that these Cooks shall be given practical training in the Institute and they shall be also taught different methods of cooking, methods of retaining the nutritional value of food and presentation of the cooked food.
DSEK also visited the training classrooms of the Institute in order to take stock of the training process. Speaking to media, he said all the 14,000 MDM cooks of all the districts including Leh and Kargil shall be provided this training in phased manner, it added.
