SRINAGAR: J&K High Court Bar Association Srinagar, has strongly condemned the “act of profiling and threatening of members of Gujjar community of Hiranagar area by Kant Kumar Thapa, the Kolah village Sarpanch of Hira Nagar who is reportedly associated with Congress Party, for raising their voice against the kidnapping, raping and murdering of an eight-year-old girl Asifa and has given an ultimatum to them to vacate the area within three days or else they will be attacked”.
An official statement issued here said that Bar held an executive committee meeting held here on Wednesday in which it stated that the Kant Kumar Thapa and his other associates “have also asked the members of his community to go for a social boycott of the Gujjars and not to purchase any milk or any other commodity from them, which is highly reprehensible”.
The Bar members demand that the members of the Gujjar community living in the area should be provided full police protection, so that no harm is caused to them by the communal and fascist forces, who are bent upon to create a wedge between the members of the two communities for malafide and communal reasons.
The statement said that Bar also condemned the killing of a 70-year-old civilian Syed Habibullah, a resident of Soibug and father of six children, who was shot dead by government forces on Sunday night at the Air Force Station, Budgam.
“Even if the police version is believed, still the government forces had no reason to kill the innocent civilian in a barbaric and brutal manner, as he was unarmed and had strayed out of his home because of distress and in a state of extreme penury,” Bar said.
It was stated that in order to find out the truth, it is necessary to have a judicial probe conducted in the matter so that the person, who has “killed a poor, infirm and a sick old man for no ostensible reasons”, is brought to book.
