Asks Hurriyat leaders to disclose assets to counter allegations
Srinagar: Asking government officers and politicians including Hurriyat leaders to come clean on allegations of holding disproportionate assets, MLA Langate Engineer Rasheed on Monday asked the government to investigate his assets so that allegations laid against him are laid to rest.
Addressing a press conference Rasheed said that people have every right to know about the known and unknown assets of leaders.
Rasheed said that a section of Indian TV channels had claimed that he was holding assets within and outside state, after which he requested the state Assebly speaker to investigate the allegations. However when the Speaker refused to take any action, Rasheed said he approached State Accountability Commission with the same request.
“State Accountability Commission has maintained that it can’t take cognizance of my complaint unless someone other than me submits a complaint,” Rasheed said while appealing the chief minister and speaker to investigate his assets, “so that the false propaganda by a section of media” is investigated.
While acknowledging that most of the politicians and government officers have acquired huge assets through illegal means and grabbed valuable land in Srinagar, Gulmarg, Jammu, Pahalgam and other important places, Rasheed asked government to investigate the assets of all politicians and officers — retired and serving.
“Those who have looted the resources of the state and public money are having a complete blessing from New Delhi and nobody dares to touch these Babus and Neetas,” Rasheed said.
He called on Hurriyat leaders to make their assets public as “people have a lot of respect and faith in them and the propaganda against resistance leadership needs to be countered with facts and figures”.
