SRINAGAR: Saying that they have been left in lurch by the government, Pellet victims on Monday staged a protest here and sought help from society to end their plight.

The protesting pellet victims said that they have come out on roads to seek the help from the society.

Amir, one of the pellet victims from district Pulwama said: “We are suffering a lot in our life. We want to convey a message to the people that they have not taken any kind of jobs or compensation from the government.”

“We also did not take money from any NGO. We started own trust for the welfare of pellet victims. Now we request the people to help us. We have opened the bank account of that trust also,” he added.

Another pellet victim, Mohammad Ashraf wani, said that society has now a different attitude towards the pellet victims. “It is because of some victims who took compensation and jobs from the government. We are nearly 1200 victims and I guess 12 people have been given jobs by the government. Rest of us are at the mercy of the societal help,” he said.
