Srinagar: The government on Monday decided to impose restrictions under section 144 CrPC in the jurisdiction of Sub-Division Hiranagar for a period of one month in order to maintain law and order in the area. The move comes following protests by Hindu Ekta Manch in support of accused in the rape and murder case of an eight-year-old-girl who belonged to the nomad Gujjar community.
The order was passed by Kathua District Magistrate. “To maintain harmony and law and order in the Sub-Division, I, Rohit Khojuria, District Magistrate, Kathua hereby impose restrictions under section 144 of CRPC in the jurisdiction of Sub-Division Hiranagar for a period of one month from the date of issuance of this order preventing the assembly of 04 or more persons,” reads the order copy.
The order, according to Khajuria, will not be implacable on marriages, funerals and government functions.
