SHOPIAN: The government forces on Monday conducted Search and Destroy Operations (SADO) in the twin villages of Nullay-Poshwari in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Sources from Nullay-Poshwari told Kashmir Reader that several gunshots were heard in the village orchards when the forces were conducting searches in the area, creating panic among local inhabitants. They said that there was also deployment in the village premises.
Earlier, a CASO was conducted in Gund-Woen village by a joint team of government forces, comprised of 34 RR of the Indian Army, the 14th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force and the JK Police’s Special Operations Group. Local sources said that house-to-house searches were carried out by the joint team after an input about the presence of militants in the area.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Shopian, Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar told Kashmir Reader that a SADO operation was conducted by a joint team of forces in orchards in the area. “Some gunshots were heard from some distance while SADO was underway. Later, forces were withdrawn from the area after searches in the orchards,” he said, while adding that the nature of the gunshots heard is still being ascertained.
