Sopore: The increasing stray dog population is posing a serious threat to the human population in the Sopore and locals blamed authorities for failing to respond effectively.
The areas where dogs are found in hundrends and pose a serious threat to humans include bus stand Sopore, new colony, Shalpora and Iqbal nagar.
“No dog control methods are being taken by the authorities,” a resident of Sopore said.
Block Medical Officer Sopore DR Sami Ahmad told Kashmir Reader that twenty cases have been registered in the SDH hospital during the recent years.
Residents blamed the Muncipal Committee officials of keeping the collected waste at different places in the town. “It is the major cause of increasing drug population,” they said. “It has become difficult for school children and elderly persons to move outside alone. The pack of dogs chasing pedestrians, bikers, cars is a common scene in the town. ”
Executive Officer Municipal committee Sopore Abdul Miteen told Kashmir Reader that sterilization process will be started soon.
“We are in a process of identifying proper place, where Veterinary doctors will start the process accordingly. It will take us more than a week to identify the spot,” he said.
