JAMMU: Assuring that Central University Kashmir (CUK) will be set up in the central Kashmir district of Ganderbal, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said that there have been some difficulties in the construction university at the present site in the district.
Following the communication from Minister of Human Resource Development (MHRD), the University has been asked to stop all the constructional activities at the present site at Tulmulla till the visit of the Project Monitoring Unit of MHRD.
The main opposition National Conference (NC), representing both the Legislative Assembly (LA) seat of Ganderbal and Kangan in the district has strongly protested against the shifting of CUK.
Responding to concerns of local population of the Ganderbal district, Chief Minister Mehbooba said there is no proposal to shift the CUK from Ganderbal.
Taking to micro blogging site twitter she said “Central university construction site in Ganderbal has experienced minor difficulties. Administration tasked with identifying alternate/additional suitable sites within Ganderbal. Absolutely no question of shifting it anywhere else”.
Minister for Works (R&B), Naeem Akhtar Akhtar also said that Chief Minister has made it clear that there is no proposal of shifting CUK campus from Ganderbal.
He said some vested interests were spreading canards that the CUK is being shifted from Ganderbal; it is totally wrong.
The Minister said the Education Minister has also clarified in the Lower House during the recent Budget Session that there is no any proposal for shifting of Central University of Kashmir from district Ganderbal.
He hoped that the administration will put all their efforts to identify the alternate suitable site within Ganderbal at an earliest so that work on this prestigious project could be started soon.
