Baramulla: A seminar on disaster preparedness was organised by Tehsil administration Uri in collaboration with Rural development department at TRC Salambad here on Saturday.
The theme of the seminar was ‘Disaster management then and now’ and was attended by SDM Dr D Sagar, Tehsildar Uri Mohammad Aslam and DSP SDRF Baramulla Gulam Hassan and was attended by a large number of volunteers and other prominent sections of the society.
Various speakers who spoke on the topic gave a detailed account of various disasters including floods, earthquakes, and landslides and the ways of their mitigation. They stressed on preparedness and said that calamities cannot be avoided but its effects can be mitigated by proper management and preparedness.
Speaking on the occasion, the SDM Uri lauded the participants and termed holding of the seminar a way forward to mitigate disaster losses through awareness.
He described holding of the seminar on natural disasters a sign preparedness to tackle it more efficiently in future times.
He also reiterated commitment to strengthening disaster management plan and said that various initiatives are afoot in this regard.
SDM called for a collective effort in disaster risk reduction and sought public support in maintaining the ecological balance of nature.
“People should adopt proper and scientific construction plan while building their houses especially in sloppy areas besides consultation from the concerned experts,” he said.
Later a mock drill was organized in which SDRF showed special techniques of first aid and other rescue operations were imparted by the experts.
