SRINAGAR: Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) chairperson Syeda Aasiya Andrabi on Wednesday said the Srinagar Central jail authorities have “unleashed a reign of terror” in the prison after a militant detained in the jail managed to escape from SMHS hospital.
In a statement, Aasiya said there are apprehensions that the political prisoners who are languishing in central jail for many years will be shifted. “While many under trails were shifted on the very next day of the incident, there are apprehensions that other political prisoners who are in the jail for many years will be shifted to other jails.”
She said while the fleeing of Lashkar militant Naveed alias Hanzullah is a “security lapse”, the jail authorities “under the command of new SSP Mukesh Kumar are inflicting coercion on the prisoners there”. “How can authorities make others responsible for their own failure,” she said.
“The jail has been turned into Guantanamo Bay. The new SSP Mukesh Kumar is a dreaded personnel of infamous Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police and he has been sent to the jail to coerce the prisoners. The situation worse than Guantanamo Bay, has been created in the jail.”
