Pulwama: The absence of bridge on Jehlum River near Patal Bagh and other dozen villages is forcing residents to cross the river by boats.
The residents affected due to absence of bridge include Patal Bagh, Khadirmoo, Baji Bagh, Nehama, Sambora, Marvel, Kandizal and Patal Bagh.
Everyday students, employees have to wait for the boats to ferry them across the banks.
“More than three to four hundred people cross the river daily through boats and rest of people are forced to cover 4-5 kilo meters more to go on the other side of river through a bridge,” residents said. Adding that it has affected their daily life schedules: “students, employees are worst hit due to the absence of the bridge. It is frustrating to wait for the waits to ferry us across the river. There is limited number of boats.”
Residents also said that during rainy days and after sunset, they fear for their lives and most of them they are unable to cross the river and have to cover long distances to reach somewhere where they can cross the river through bridge.
While talking to Kashmir reader locals alleged that despite approaching authorities umpteen times no attention has been paid towards them.
When contacted MLA Pampore Zahoor Ahmed Mir, he said, “We have submitted report to concerned authorities for construction of bridge in Kandizal.”
