Top army brass visits JK, reviews security

Srinagar: Top defense officails on Friday visisted border areas of Jammu and Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir to acess the situation on ground , officails said. Defence Secretary Sanjay Mitra Friday reviewed the security situation in Kashmir and visited forward posts along the Line of Control (LoC) here.
“Defence Secretary Sanjay Mitra arrived here for a review of the overall security situation in the Valley,” a defence spokesman said here.
Mitra visited the forward areas along the LoC where he was briefed on the prevailing security situation. The Defence Secretary interacted with the commanders and troops on ground, the spokesman said.
“He was also briefed on the close coordination amongst all the government agencies in maintaining peace in the region,” he added.
Mitra also visited Badami Bagh Cantonment, the headquarters of the Army’s 15 Corps here, where he was briefed by Corps Commander Lt Gen A K Bhatt about the counter infiltration and counter terrorism grids functional in the Valley.
“Mitra appreciated the various measures instituted to strengthen the security posture and the good job being done by all the security forces,” the spokesman said.
The Vice Chief of Army Staff (VCOAS) Lt Gen Sarath Chand also arrived in the Valley to review the prevailing security situation and visited the formations and units in north Kashmir.
A Spokesperson said that during the visit, the VCOAS was briefed by the commanders on ground regarding the operational preparedness as well as the measures taken to meet the security weather related challenges.
“The Vice Chief also interacted with the troops and emphasised on the need for undertaking relentless intelligence based operations to sustain pressure on the militant groups and maintain a high degree of vigil along the Line of Control to eliminate any infiltration bid,” statement said.
Later in the day, the General Officer arrived at Badami Bagh Cantonment where he was received by the Chinar Corps Commander, Lt Gen AK Bhatt.
The defence statement also said that Lt Gen Surinder Singh Western Army Commander visited forward areas of Samba and Pathankot sector on 8 and 9 February.
The statement said that the General was briefed by Lt Gen YVK Mohan, GOC, Rising Star Corps on the prevailing situation in the Jammu-Pathankot region and the security measures in place.
“The Army Commander reviewed the preparedness of the Army in the region and stressed on ensuring fail-safe security measures. He appreciated the coordinated efforts being made by all security agencies in the area. In view of the prevailing situation and recent incidents, he emphasised the need for a high state of alertness and operational preparedness,” statement said.
He also interacted with Commanders and troops during his visit and appreciated their high state of morale.
