SRINAGAR: The joint resistance leadership (JRL) on Friday said the hanging of Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru is like a black page in the judicial history. In a statement, the JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik said, “A human was secretly put to gallows on petty pretext of satisfying the collective conscience of people, without giving him a last chance to meet his family and handing over his corpse to them for last rites.”
“Same cruelty and criminal treatment was also given to great resistance leader Muhammad Maqbool Butt in 1984 when he was also hanged in similar haste, without giving him a last chance to meet his family,” the leadership said.
The JRL also in a statement condemned the imposition of curfew and restrictions, banning of Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid, arrest spree, nocturnal raids and other “oppressive” measures.
“This has become the most desired practice of the so-called biggest democracy which actually has turned Kashmir into a big concentration camp,” Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik said.
The statement said that on the directions of JRL, JKLF leaders and activists despite heavy restrictions gathered at Abi Guzar and staged a protest demonstration demanding return of mortal remains of Maqbool Butt and Afzal Guru.
They also condemned the continuous house detention of Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and imprisonment of Muhammad Yasin Malik.
Meanwhile, the statement said that memorandum by JRL was read out and unanimously adopted by people at various Masajids and other religious places during Friday prayers.
