Shopian: A complete shutdown was observed on Friday on response to the JRL’s call for a shutdown on the death anniversary of Kashmiri resistance leader Afzal Guroo. All shops and business establishments remained closed in tbe town and roads wore a deserted look. Clashes were reported in Meminder area where protesting youth hurled stones on government forces, who retaliated with tear smoke shells and pellets, in which several youths were injured with pellets, locals said. Doctors at sub-district hospital Shopian told Kashmir Reader that a youth was brought to the hospital with pellet injuries in his left eye. They said that the boy was referred to SMHS Srinagar for treatment. Local sources from Meminder said that at least 10 persons sustained injuries from pellets. On Thursday, a complete shutdown was observed in Shopian district against the arrest of two boys in the main town. The district had earlier remained shut for several days over the killing of five civilians in firing by government forces. Meanwhile, militants appeared in Ganowpora village of Shopian and offered gun salute to the slain militant and civilians killed by troops recently. Local sources said that as several militants appeared in the village and fired in air with firing continuing for two minutes. Senior superintendent of police Shopian Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar told Kashmir Reader that they were ascertaining the facts.
