Sopore: Residents of Rampur and Sheer colony Sopore accused PHE officials of failing to supply pure drinking water in their localities.
According to the residents of Rampur village, PHE department has failed to provide adequate water supply to the area and from last15 days cutting of water supply in the area has led to water crises in the village.
Saja Begum, a local resident told Kashmir Reader that they are being forced to fetch dirty water from the nearby stream.
“Drinking impure water can affect our health especially our children. But we are left with no other option other than consuming contaminated drinking water,” she rued.
Residents of the village have appealed their local MLA Haji Abdul Rashid Dar to provide pure drinking water in the locality.
“We don’t expect anything else from you, just the drinking water for us. We are suffering on daily basis and our womenfolk have to fetch water from the dirty streams.”
However, PHE officials told Kashmir Reader that low pressure in the water supply is the reason for water crises in Rampur and added that efforts are on to provide water supply as per schedule.
Residents of Sheer colony residents also accused PHE officials of supplying contaminated water.
The water tank with a capacity of around 9-gallon has been installed in the locality a decade ago but due to the snag in it at various places the dam water mixes with the tank water, locals said.
“We have made many requests to the concerned authorities to fix the snags in the water tank, but nothing has been done till date,” locals added, “The tank has now become a site of mud and weeds.”
The residents claimed that the women flock has to walk miles to fetch pure drinking water.
“The contaminated water is the reason for waterborne diseases in the locality,” they said.
When Kashmir Reader tried to contact concerned PHE official, he wasn’t available for comment.
