Revenue officials suspended over illegal walnut tree felling

ANANTNAG: Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kokernag Rouf Rehman has suspended three Revenue officials allegedly for failing to report felling of walnut trees in Badroo village of Kokernag.
The concerned Tehsildar told Kashmir Reader that an investigation by the department found thirty walnut trees were cut down in the village.
The revenue officials who have been suspended include a Girdawar, Patwari and lumbardar of the village.
He also said that the suspension has been on the grounds that there was indiscriminate cutting of walnut trees in the village the concerned revenue officials did not report to higher authorities.
“All this happened when I was on leave and the violators got a chance and cashed my absence,” he said.
The officials have been directed to report in the office of Tehsildar Kokernag, till further orders.
Tehsildar Kokernag is directed to conduct further inquiry into the matter and submit the report within 10 days.
The officials who have been suspended are Girdawar Mohammad Yousuf Khan, Pathwari Showkat Ali Wani, Patwari and Lambardar Mohammad Ibrahim Reshi.
In Kashmir cutting of walnut trees is illegal and a walnut tree can be only felled after the permission of revenue officials.
