Anganwadi workers, helpers demand hike in honorarium

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Association (AWHA) on Thursday protested again in Srinagar, demanding an increase in honorarium and other benefits.
Scores of the protestors assembled here at Pratap Park and blocked the road outside the Press Colony.
Later protesters tried to march towards the radio Kashmir station. The protesters shouted slogans against the state government.
The protestors demanded an increase in honorarium for both workers and helpers in Anganwadi centres.
President of Anganwadi Centres Association, Tasleema Subhan said, “We are on strike from last eight days. All Anganwadi Centre in Jammu and Kashmir are closed. The strike will continue till the government will not take any decision regarding our demands.We have already requested the state government to increase the honorarium of Anganwadi workers and helpers. The state government is providing six hundred rupees for helpers and three hundred rupees for workers. The extra honorarium is provided by the central government.”
She added: “We are demanding an increase in honorarium, Pension, and medical leave for both workers and helpers. We are also demanding the promotion of employees on the seniority basis.
