Fire erupts in Wastoorwan forest in Pampore

PAMPORE: A massive fire engulfed the Wastoorwan forest area of Pampore in Pulwama district on Wednesday morning.
Officials said the fire engulfed some forest ranges in Pampore area of forest division Awantipora creating scare in the whole area.
Division Forest Officer (DFO) Awantipora, Farooq Ahmad Dar told Kashmir Reader that the fire appeared in the forest areas near Lethpora and Victor Force headquarters but was controlled before it could reach to the enclosures (closed areas in which new trees are planted) of the forest.
He said a joint team of employees from all the wings of forest department including Range Office Pampore, Block Office Lethapora, Khrew and Pampore along with field staff of Pampore range reached the spot and saved the green gold by controlling the fire.
He said that all the allied departments including social forestry, wild life conservation and forest officials along with locals joined hands in putting off the fire.
He said that though they have been able to control the fire they would be keeping extra vigil.
“We have provided firefighting equipment to our employees and we are trying that we would not allow the fire to erupt again,” he said.
He said that due to prevailing dry conditions in the valley a single spark can trigger a disaster.
