Solution lies in two nation theory

Srinagar: Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) Tuesday said solution of Kashmir dispute lies in Two Nation Theory, and the ideology behind seeking independent nation was a “deep conspiracy to weaken the ongoing freedom struggle”.
“There is no scepticism in it that we want to be with Pakistan,” DeM chief Asiya Andrabi said in a seminar, organised by the party at her residence to mark the 25 years of incarceration of her husband Qasim Faktoo.
“Kashmir dispute came into existence because of two nation theory and it remains to be the unfinished agenda of the partition in the sub-continent,” Andrabi said.
She alleged that the ideology behind seeking independent Kashmir is a “deep conspiracy” to weaken the freedom struggle of Kashmir.
“Today, there is section of Kashmiri Muslims who say do you want to be under Pakistan’s occupations after ending India’s occupation,” she said. “Such things are being done to weaken the freedom struggle.”
Terming the detention of Faktoo as political vendetta Andrabi said he is being put behind bars “because of his political ideology”.
“It is difficult for a woman to spend her life without her husband. No one except a woman would understand it,” Andrabi said.
DeM said Faktoo is the only prisoner to have completed 25 years in prison since 1931.
Stating that there are around 24 people (Kashmiris) spending life imprisonment in several jails in India, Andrabi said,
“Spending one month in Indian prison is equal to spending two years in Kashmir and I salute every such person who has spent years in Indian prisons,” Andrabi said.
Anjum Zamrooda Habib, Chief of Muslim Khawateen Markaz, a constituent of Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, stressed on the need to understand Faktoo “beyond the perspective of DeM and Asiya Andrabi”.
“He himself is an institution and I believe he should be seen beyond the prism of Asiya Andrabi and DeM,” Zamrooda said. “Civil Society and resistance should rake-up the detention of Qasim Sahab including all Kashmiri political prisoners who are serving life imprisonment in different Indian prisons.”
Zamrooda said most of the time in prison gets wasted “but Qasim sahib utilised it and wrote several books so that freedom struggle is carried forward”.
“I have read very little about him and I believe India came to know about his fertile mind when he delivered a speech in England after he was granted bail under TADA act,” she said.
“India tried to negotiate deal with him at least eight times but they failed to do that”
In its official statement DeM said Faktoo was recommended for release by the review board but government declined. “According to the Jammu and Kashmir jail manual Dr Qasim was to be released after 20 years but again government declined to follow the manual,” the statement said.
DeM said that Faqtoo’s counsel Mian Abdul Qayoom represented before the court that jail manual must be followed in his case.
“The first hearing was held on Dec 11 last year and the next hearing is scheduled for February 19. If the court gives a favorable decision it would open the chances of release for the other life prisoners who have completed 20 years of imprisonment.”
Hitting hard at the government’s anti-militancy operation, Andrabi said, Operation All Out will turn out to be “all out for India”.
“How many Muhajids India killed since it started Operation All Out? The more Muhajids India will kill, the more youth will get attract towards the freedom struggle,” she said. “The situation today has reached that now scholars join the freedom movement.”
Asiya said she has spent only two years with Faktoo out of 27 years of marriage. Life in these years has been difficult playing hide and seek with government forces, she said.
She also recalled the couple’s detention at the notorious torture centre PAPA-2 after being detained at airport.
“There was one of the chief operation commander known by the name Gharak and he told me to convince Doctor Sahab to cooperate with them or else he will be dead,” she said. “I replied that Dr Sahib was mature than me and he knows what he has to reveal and what not.”
“Gharak then said Faktoo will be no more and I replied that life and death were in Allah’s hand, and even if you kill him I will meet him in heaven as we Muslims believe in life after death,” she said.
