JAMMU: Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Nabi Hanjura Monday informed the Legislative Council that during the current winter, consumers of Leh were provided average 18 hours power supply in a day.
The Minister was replying to a calling attention Notice by MLC Qaiser Jamsheed Lone in this regard.
Giving details, the Minister informed that Nimo Bazgo Power House with an installed capacity of 3×15 MW, is being operated by NHPC. “But due to the freezing of water in Indus River during winters, the power house supplies only 24-MW during peak hours as they have to store water to meet full demand,”
“However, due to limited 66 KV power connectivity, the far flung areas including Nyoma, Durbuk and Nubra blocks etc are being fed through DG sets and a minimum of 5 to 6 hours supply is made available to such areas,” the Minister added .
While responding to the supplementary, the Minister said that all the uncovered areas will be illuminated by 2019.
