Police pick up several youths in night raids after clashes in Soibug

BUDGAM: A dozen youths were detained in night raids in the intervening night of Friday and Saturday at different localities of Soibug in Budgam district, police said.
Police sources said that some “miscreants” had been detained who were involved in disruption of peace and in stone-pelting.
Local sources told Kashmir Reader that clashes erupted between youths and government forces on Friday and continued till late night. They said forces raided the houses in several mohallas of Soibug during the night and detained many youths.
They also alleged that government forces broke windowpanes and ransacked several houses in Guru Mohalla, Fakir Mohalla and Dandipora area of Soibug.
“After the forces went berserk, announcements were made on loudspeakers which created panic among the residents. People came out of their homes and pelted stones on forces who retaliated with teargas and PAVA shelling,” said a local.
A complete shutdown was observed in the area to demand the immediate release of the detained youths. All schools, business establishments and shops were shut in Soibug and traffic was also off the roads.
