Lawyers in Kashmir protest against Shopian killings

Srinagar /Anantnag: The High Court Bar Association on Saturday protested against the Shopain killings and termed them as intentional and barbaric.
The Bar Association while condemning the killings of five young boys namely Musharraf Shahzad a ten-year-old, Rayees Ahmad Ganai, Shakir Ahmad Mir, Firdous Ahmad and Sameer Ahmad, demanded immediate arrest of the guilty army officials for being prosecuted and punished under law.
Nazir Ahmed Ronga while addressing lawyers said, “Kashmiri’s are being used as ‘cattle fodder’. Day in and day out, blooming flowers (youth) are snatched from us. How long Pakistani and Indian leadership will remain silent to the gross human Rights violation taking place in Kashmir and how long the world will watch as mute spectator. We are asking for our fundamental rights and world has to acknowledge it very soon.”
General Secretary Bar Association GN Shaheen termed Shopain Killings as state terrorism at the hands of security forces.
He lashed at Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti saying how come she is playing with the lives of youth by claiming registration of FIR against army and on the other hand says Army is disciplined force.
“The institutional justice is denied to the people as such the people of J&K are forced to come out in peaceful protests against the atrocities, state repression aimed at genocide of the Kashmiris. The situation in Kashmir is grave and alarming, worse than Palestine and Syria,” he added.
The Association demanded justice for the people and appealed to the international community to intervene and call upon the Indian government to stop the bloodshed and genocide of Kashmiris. “The international community especially the United Nations Organisation has a moral, political and diplomatic responsibility to intervene to address the human tragedy in J&K,” the lawyer’s body said.
Meanwhile Bar Association Anantnag also took out a protest demonstration against the killing of civilians in Shopian.
The lawyers also demanded immediate action in Ashifa rape and murder case and condemned the thrashing of Kashmiri students in Haryana.
The Bar Association Anantnag organized the protest demonstration in response to a call extended by the High Court Bar Association.
The protests were led by Anantnag Bar Association President, Fayaz Sodagar, wherein all lawyers working at Anantnag district court participated.
The lawyers, carrying banners and placards, marched towards the city Lal Chowk and then back to the court premises peacefully while chanting slogans.
The Bar Association has demanded a judicial inquiry into the Shopian killings.
“The inquiry should be conducted by a sitting High Court judge and the culprits should be punished as per law,” Sodagar said.
The protesting lawyers also demanded immediate identification and arrest of the culprits in minor Ashifa’s rape and murder.
On the call of HCBA, District Bar Association Budgam also suspended its work and led a protest rally against the recent civilian killings in Shopian.
All senior and junior lawyers assembled outside court complex and observed strike against the killings.
Speaking on the occasion, Bar members termed the government ordered the probe into Shopian killings as mere an “eyewash” and said these were the deliberate tactics to save the culprits.
Later the bar members led a protest rally towards the main market to condemn the killings.
