JAMMU: After opposition’s pressure, the government on Thursday said that chief minister Mehbooba Mufti would chair the All-party meeting on Panchayat polls.
Opposition parties had took offence after it learnt the chief minister would not be in the meeting. The government has called APM on Panchayat polls to decide whether to go ahead with holding the polls this month.
Minister Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Law and Justice, Abdul Haq Khan told the legislative assembly that Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti will chair the All Party Meeting to seek the views of all the political parties in the state about the elections.
The minister said the decision in this regard was taken on the suggestions put forth by the leaders of various political parties.
The decision to convene the All Party Meeting on the issue was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister earlier this week.
