‘94 infiltrating militants killed along LoC’
Jammu: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said on Thursday that 25 civilians were killed along the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) and 162 have been injured in the last two years.
In a written reply to a question by BJP legislator, the chief minister, who is also home minister, said that 224 houses were damaged in cross-border shelling.
She said that 13 civilians were killed and 83 injured in shelling along the border in 2016. In 2017, 12 people were killed and 79 injured in the shelling by Pakistani forces, she added.
The government said it paid compensation of Rs 23 lakhs to kin of the 23 slain civilians and only two cases are pending.
“Ex-gratia to the tune of Rs 6.20 lakh has been paid to 110 injured persons. An amount of Rs 43.66 lakh has been disbursed on account of damage to the properties (165 houses) due to the border shelling in Jammu,” it added.
The chief minister also said that the government has temporarily shifted border residents to safer places where they are provided basic amenities. “Security is augmented in border areas and anti- infiltration grid strengthened. Police deployment is increased and adequate security provided in the border villages to ensure protection of property, “ the government said.
According to Mehbooba, 94 militants were killed and three arrested during infiltration bids along the Line of Control in the last two years.
She said 35 militants were killed and three arrested during infiltration bids in 2016.
The chief minister said 59 militants were killed during such bids in 2017.
Regarding bunkers, it said, ministry of home affairs has sanctioned construction of above 14000 bunkers.
