Srinagar: Lt Gen AK Bhatt on Thursday took over as the 47th Corps Commander of 15 Corps from Lt Gen JS Sandhu in an event held here.
The 15 Corps, known as Chinar Corps, also held a farewell at Badami Bagh Cantonment for outgoing Commander Lt Gen Sandhu, who is proceeding to New Delhi to assume the charge of Military Secretary (MS).
“Lt Gen Sandhu’s tenure will be defined by the successful execution of ‘Operation All Out’ launched by the Security Forces in the Valley,” said an army spokesperson in a statement.
The statement said Sandhu also gave impetus to improving education infrastructure, coaching facilities, skill development, sports and youth empowerment.
“In his farewell message, he complimented all ranks of Chinar Corps for their dedication and thanked civil administration and Awaam for their support,” the statement said.
“Lt Gen Bhatt was commissioned into the regiment of 9th Gorkha Rifles (Chindits) and has had an illustrious military career spanning 36 years, during which he has held varied prestigious command, staff and instructional appointments,” the spokesperson said.
“The General Officer has an incisive understanding of J&K, having served here thrice before. A graduate of Staff College, Camberley (UK), Gen Bhatt has also held several appointments in the Army Headquarters and had an instructional appointment at Commando School, Belgaum. The General Officer has also represented the country as the deputy Force Provost Marshal in Lebanon,” it said.
“Before taking over as Chinar Corps Commander, the General Officer was tenanting the prestigious appointment of Director General Military Operations (DGMO) in Army Headquarters. On assuming the charge, Gen Bhatt conveyed his greetings to the Awaam of Kashmir and the entire Chinar Corps fraternity,” it added.
