BUDGAM: Noted Shia scholar and leader Aga Syed Muhammad Fazlullah Al-Mousvi Al-Safvi passed away Monday at his residence at Budgam after a prolonged illness.
As the news of his death spread the people from every nook and corner of the valley thronged to his home at Budgam.
With moistened eyes thousands of people were seen moving in his funeral procession.
Aga Syed Fazlullah was son of Ayatullah Aga Syed Yousuf Al-Mousvi Al- Safvi; the founder of Anjuman-e-Sharian Shian.
“He died after prolonged illness on Monday at his home,” said a family member.
The deceased was the brother of NC Leader and MLC Aga Syed Mehmood and grand-uncle of party chief spokesperson and MLA Budgam, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi.
He was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard at Astan-eSharif Budgam. The funeral prayers were led by Aga Syed Bakar.
Politicians, religious scholars and social leaders paid glowing tributes to Aga Fazlullah.
People described him as a well known religious luminary, who has contributed a lot to religious education.
“The services rendered by him to the people shall always be remembered,” said a mourner.
Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah and Working President Omar Abdullah expressed profound sorrow over the demise of Aga Fazalullah.
Recalling the contribution of Agha Fazalullah, the Chief Minister said he played an important role in the social, educational and spiritual awakening of his followers and was a great proponent of unity among all sects and views.
Paying glowing tributes to Late Aga Syed Muhammad Fazalullah, Abdullahs said in his demise the state had lost a prominent scholar of Islam who would be remembered for ages to come.
