Fire disrupts air traffic at Srinagar airport

Srinagar: A fire broke out at Sheik-ul-alam International airport Srinagar on Monday afternoon, disrupting the traffic for some time.

The area of incident falls under the control of Indian Air Force.


“The fire erupted from the Indian Air Force side. They were clearing the bushes and unwanted wood to have a clear view of the area. But the grass was pretty dry; it led to escalation of fire quickly. However it was brought under control immediately”, SP Airport Manzoor Ahmed said.

“No damage was done, but the flights were delayed as a precautionary measure for around 30 minutes to makes sure no untoward incident happens. Normal air traffic was resumed later”, he added.

Abdul Majeed a Srinagarite said that his flight was scheduled at 10:50 am got delayed with the fire incident.
