According to an official handout, bakers were advised to use sieve/hang for separating any foreign substances from atta or maida, restrict entry of rodents into their premises, install running water connections and use only stainless steel utensils.
Whereas, butchers and chicken sellers were asked not to expose parts of meat to dust, smoke and flies. They have been directed to use corrosion free knives, balance and other utensils and to also install running water connections and to put in place floor tiling and wall tiling up to at least 6 feet.
“Wooden chopping boards should be free from cracks and crevices harbouring unsafe microbes detrimental to health,” it read.
All food business operators have been asked to adhere to the norms within a period of 15 days.
Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Srinagar said that any food business operator found deficient in any of the aforementioned requirements, shall be booked under relevant provisions of Food Standard and Safety Act, the handout added.
