Srinagar: Cases of stone-pelting sharply decreased last year but cases of robbery, illegal constructions, and maintenance to divorced wives increased in the Srinagar district court.
The court received 3,383 FIRs in 2017 as compared to 2,571 in 2016. However, 57 percent of the FIRs last year have not been challaned by the police.
Of the 3,383 FIRs by 30 police stations in Srinagar, only 1,459 have been challaned by the police. Police station Parimpora filed the highest number of FIRs but challaned just 133 of the 303 FIRs it filed. Similarly, Saddar police station has challaned 101 FIRs out of 251 it filed before the district court.
Some of the police stations have not challaned any FIR filed by them in court. The CIK (Counter Intelligence Kashmir) filed 13 FIRs but no FIR has yet been challaned by them. Crime Branch Kashmir (CBK) filed 43 FIRs but only one FIR has been challaned.
Police station Batamaloo has challaned the highest number of FIRs, with only 68 pending of the 205 filed in 2017.
