Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday said that Srinagar Master Plan (SMP) is underway for finalisation.
In a written reply to PDP MLA, Mohammad Ashraf Mir, the housing and urban development department minister, Nirmal Singh, said, “the draft Master Plan of Srinagar Metropolitan region (2015-35) was prepared by Chief Town Planner (CTP) for Kashmir region in consultation with the stakeholders and experts within and outside the state.”
The government said that a number of workshops and seminars were organized with stakeholders/experts and general masses since May 2015 “so as to make SMP a plan of holistic and realistic nature”.
“A committee has been constituted by the government for scrutinizing objections and suggestions received from the public since May 2017 up to October 2017 when the SMP was made public,” the reply added.
The government further said that “Smart City” proposal as approved has “most of its projects aligned with the SMP”.
In fact, the basic input was taken out from the draft SMP so that both the documents are in harmony with each and share common targets and objectives.
The MLA Sonwar had asked the government whether the SMP design and formulation was “defective”.
