Jammu: The legislative assembly on Wednesday witnessed noisy scences after the opposition sought answer from the governemnt over Shopian civilian killing.
As the lower house of state legislature was debating grants to Relief and Rehabilitation department, the National Conference (NC) members stood up from their seats seeking a government statement on the youth’s killing.
NC’s Shameema Firdous also raised the issue of injuries to two girls during the encounter in Shopian.
“We take back our cut-motions against your department,” opposition MLAs told minister Javed Mustafa Mir. “Just tell the house as what happened at the encounter site.”
While opposition NC and Congress MLAs pressed government to issue a statement on youth’s killing, there was a verbal duel between NC’s Ali Mohammad Sagar and PDP minister Abdul Haq Khan.
Sagar was enraged on what he said “Khan’s smiling face” in charged atmosphere.
“Why are you smiling,” Sagar asked Khan. “It is all because of the seeds which you have sown,” Khan retorted Sagar.
This remark further enraged the NC legislators who accused Khan of being a “former militant”.
Amid the din, NC MLAs staged walkout raising anti-government slogans. They also staged protests outside the assembly complex seeking punishment to guilty.
Minister for Parliamentary Affairs told the house that a youth was killed during clashes while a gunfight was going on in southern Kashmir’s Shopian. The house adjourned till Monday.
