Jammu: Taking a strong notice of the absence of ministers in the assembly, deputy speaker of Legislative Assembly, Nazir Ahmad Khan (Gurezi), on Wednesday adjourned the proceedings of the house for at least ten minutes.
At least 23 MLAs, in the house of 87 members, need to be present to run the proceedings of the lower house of state legislature. However, on Wednesday, Gurezi had to adjourn the house for “want of numbers” during a discussion on grants for Industries department.
As the assembly proceedings resumed after ten minutes, a few other ministers including Abdul Haq Khan, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, Javed Mustafa Mir and Priya Sethi appeared in the house.
Admonishing the government over the absence of ministers, the deputy speaker directed minister Abdul Haq Khan to “take house seriously and ensure the presence of the majority of the ministers in the house”.
