SRINAGAR: Scores of unemployed tourism degree holders on Tuesday staged protest here demanding framing of a Rehbar-e-Sayahat policy for them.
Under the banner of All Jammu and Kashmir Unemployed Tourism Professionals Association (AJUTPA), the protesters assembled at press enclave and raised slogans in favour of their demands.
“We are almost 380 unemployed youth with degrees ranging from diplomas to PhDs in tourism studies,” President AJUTPA Khursheed Ahmad Wani said.
He said the association had first put a proposal for the Rehbar-e-Sayahat recruitment policy before the then PDP-Congress government in 2008.
The AJUTPA president said government should implement a policy on the pattern of the Rehbar-e-Taleem scheme to absorb the unemployed tourism professionals.
“Tourism is considered as the backbone of state’s economy. By engaging candidates under Rehbar-e-Sayahat, the experience and expertise of tourism professionals will take state’s economy to new heights,” Wani said.
