Bandipora: Army will play a “supportive role” in holding Panchayat elections in Kashmir, said GoC Kilo force, Major Gen AK Singh on Tuesday.
Addressing reporters on the sidelines of an event organised by 14 Rashtriya Rifles at Army’s Goodwill School here, he said that the government has to take a decision over holding of panchayat polls in the valley “as everyone is enthusiastic about the development”.
He said that army would ensure that peace and tranquility is established for creating conducive atmosphere for holding Panchahayt elections.
Talking about the shifting of militants from south to north Kashmir, he said army is aware of it and that north Kashmir has rejected militants before and it would do so this time as well.
“I think the militant organizations definitely want to activate in north and army is aware of it and is taking all precautions, and I am very definite that the people of north Kashmir have rejected militancy earlier, “ he said.
“Militant outfits are not going to find any attractions and we are well aware of that and most probably the people of north Kashmir are going to reject militancy,” he added.
