Srinagar: Winter Games Federation of India (WGFI) in association with Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering (IISM) celebrated world snow day in Gulmarg on 21st January .
World snow day is celebrated all over the world to bring children to snow and to promote snow sports in our future generations.
IISM under the ministry of tourism celebrates world snow day every year.
Approximately 90 children’s from Kashmir and many from other parts of the India participated for the celebration under IISM Gulmarg.
Institute organized free skiing training for all the participants. Many children were accompanied by their parents who were also given exposure to snow sports.
DirectorIISM J S Dhillon, welcomed the children and parents and briefed them about the significance of world snow day.
He said many children are interested to pursue snow sports but there is a huge gap in the knowledge on the various snow sports facilities available in the country.
He said Gulmarg is a world renowned snow sports destination but awareness amongst the children and environment is very low including the people from Kashmir itself.
World snow day is celebrated in January third weak every year all over the world under the patronage of international ski federation (FIS).
