Jammu: Opposition National Conference and Congress members on Tuesday lambasted the PDP-BJP coalition government for “no-action” in cross-border shelling in Jammu division forcing Congress MLAs to walk-out of the house in protest.
As the speaker entered the house and ordered start of the routine business, NC and Congress members put Kavinder Gupta on notice over human and property damages in areas situated along the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC).
Ghulam Mohammad Saroori of Congress termed the situation created due to cross border shelling as “war-like”.
“12 people have been killed, domestic animals have been lost and agriculture fields have been destroyed,” said Nawang Rigzin Jora, another Congress member. “Government is doing nothing.”
Saroori said that poor people were victims of the situation along the borders.
NC’s Mian Altaf suggested the government to form a team of MLAs who would visit the border areas and take stock of the situation.
“This government has failed,” yelled the opposition members. “There is no seriousness towards border people.”
They raised anti-government slogans countered by BJP’s anti-Pakistan slogans.
NC’s Ali Mohammad Sagar expressed surprise over what he said “conflicting” statements coming from PDP and BJP over border issue.
“MP Jugal Kishore would with all-pride grant Rs 450 crore for construction of bunkers while as chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has been appealing for peace along the borders,” Sagar told the house questioning as “what was the stand of the ruling parties”.
