Contingent workers protest over non-payment of salary

Srinagar: Contingent and Seasonal Labourers of Irrigation and Flood Control Department (I&FC) on Monday held a protest in Srinagar, demanding the release of their unpaid salaries.
A protester said: “We are protesting here because of our pending salaries from last three years. And due to which we are facing serious problems. We can’t even pay tuition fees of our children,”
They said that there are around 5000 Seasonal and Causal Labourers all over the Kashmir, who are facing the same problem. “But government is not paying attention towards us,” they said.
“Government has released some of our salaries on festivals, but not after that,” said Mohammad Ayoub, one of the protester.
Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control Department Mir Mohammad Shahnawaz told Kashmir Reader that some amount from their pending salaries have been paid. “They will get their salaries after the end of assembly session,” he said.
